Wildstrings is a 10- or 14-day musical journey through Kazakhstan’s sacred sonic traditions.
Travel from Almaty to the wide-open steppe, learning to play ancestral instruments — the dombra, kobyz, jetigen, and sybyzgy — in daily workshops led by local musicians, instrument-makers, and storytellers.
Guided practice, daily storytelling, and shared meals with musicians will immerse you in the living memory of the Kazakh soundscape.
Throughout the journey, you’ll co-create and record an original collaborative track with your fellow guests and teachers — a digital artifact that carries your experience home and shares Kazakhstan’s musical soul with the world.

Wildstrings is for curious, creative travellers who want to play, not just listen.
A basic level of musical playing ability is required — this is a beginner-friendly class for these traditional instruments, but guests should feel comfortable learning simple melodies, holding rhythm, and practising daily with the group.
